　　It is a great pleasure and a great honor to introduce today's speaker, Professor Cristian Lenart.
　　Professor Cristian Lenart is a world renowned mathematician, famed with his alcove model and his combinatorial studies of the Schubert calculus.
　　He now serves as the chair of the Department of Mathematics at the State University of University at Albany. He has made substantial and profound contributions to algebraic combinatorics, much of which is still beyond my comprehension. His influence continues to run deep and strong.
　　This is his first visit to China. But he does not seem to be scared in this quite different culture. On the contrary, there is no barrier at all for him to understand everything in China because we shared the same background of two brotherly nations, Romania and China.
　　We all know that Romanians have a great reputation in gymnastics and the International Mathematical Olympia. Today we have an IMO medalist just in front of you.
　　I would also like to point out a special item on our connections. In fact, we met at MIT when Professor Lenart was a postdoc of Professor Richard Stanley. Professor Lenart was also close to my advisor Professor Gian-Carlo Rota. These facts suffice to certify that we belong to the same family and I do consider his visit no different than a family reunion. As we often say, what a pleasure to greet a friend from far away.
　　I am certain that his visit and his lecture will bring us, especially myself, the inspiration and the enlightenment to move forward to learn more and understand more mathematics, both inside and outside the area of combinatorics.
