June 1, 2026, Professor Zhonghua Qiao from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, was invited to give a talk. The title is "SPH with Physically Consistent Contact Angles: Simulating Droplet Bouncing on Partially Wetting Surface". For more information, see the poster.
Zhonghua Qiao received his Ph.D. degree from Hong Kong Baptist University in 2006. He is currently Chair Professor and Ph.D. supervisor in the Department of Applied Mathematics at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. He also serves as the Hong Kong Deputy Director of the Joint Laboratory of Applied Mathematics between the Academy of Mathematics and Systems Science, Chinese Academy of Sciences and The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Executive Council Member of the China Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics, and Vice Chairman of the Computational Mathematics Society of the Chinese Mathematical Society. In 2025, he was elected Fellow of the China Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics. His research interests focus on the design and analysis of numerical algorithms for differential equations. In recent years, his work has concentrated on numerical simulations of phase-field equations and efficient algorithms for complex fluid computations. He has made significant contributions to the numerical study of multiphase complex systems, particularly in the development of energy-stable and maximum-principle-preserving numerical methods for phase-field models, where he has produced a series of original and influential results. Professor Qiao received the Outstanding Young Researcher Award from the Research Grants Council of Hong Kong in 2013, the Young Scholar Award from the Hong Kong Mathematical Society in 2018, and the Research Fellow Award from the Research Grants Council of Hong Kong in 2020. To date, he has published more than 90 papers in internationally renowned journals, including SIAM Review. He currently serves as Executive Editor-in-Chief of Advances in Applied Mathematics and Mechanics, and is an editorial board member of several international journals, including SIAM Journal on Scientific Computing, Journal of Computational Physics, Numerical Methods for Partial Differential Equations, and International Journal of Numerical Analysis and Modeling.
