Yongcun Song is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mathematics, City University of Hong Kong. Before that, he was a Humboldt Research Fellow at Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU), Germany. He received his Ph.D from the Department of Mathematics, The University of Hong Kong, in 2021. His main research interests are scientific computing and machine learning in general. Topics include numerical optimization, operator splitting algorithms, scientific machine learning, and optimal control problems. His works have been published in some high-quality international journals including SIAM Review, SIAM Journal on Numerical Analysis, Numerische Mathematik, SIAM Journal on Scientific Computing, Inverse Problems, and Journal of Computational Physics. He was awarded the Humboldt Research Fellowship in 2021, the EASIAM Student Paper Award (first prize) in 2022, and the Best Thesis Award in the Hong Kong Mathematical Society in 2023.
